Top 10 Best Seinen Anime Villains Of All Time

Seinen is a type of Japanese manga targeted towards adult males. The genre has many titillating storylines, with some depicting the corruption and depravity that often comes from power. Thus, seinen anime typically feature dark themes and violent actions with morally reprehensible characters as the protagonists or antagonists.

The “best anime villains of all time” is a list that has been compiled by the fans. The list includes some of the best and most iconic villains in anime history.

I’ll let you in on a little secret: I know how much you want the bad people to win.

What’s more, you know what? That’s OK.

If I’m being honest, I feel the same way!

Sometimes a villain is so heinous and awful that you want to see how far they’ll go before the hero intervenes…

Maybe it’s a multi-faceted baddie that wants your attention but doesn’t adhere to your moral code?

This list of the most renowned seinen anime villains of all time includes all of that and more. Let’s get this party started…

Dio Brando is number ten.

Dio Brando in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure anime

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a Japanese anime series.

To be honest, I believe you’d be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t like Dio Brando.

Yes, he’s wicked; for starters, he’s done atrocities that span generations. Murder, poisoning, abduction, and torture are just a few of the horrible actions that many people have been subjected to, either directly or indirectly.

He’s also a vampire, just to drive home the message.

If he hadn’t been, he’d still be on the list, that’s how horrible he is!

Nonetheless, there’s something about his very magnetic persona that pulls people in, both in real life and in the show’s world.

9. Garou

Garou from One Punch Man anime

One Punch Man is a Japanese anime series.

There aren’t many villains that despise the concept of heroes as much as this one.

Garou is the epitome of a vicious and unyielding creature. Only a few heroes have stood up to him and walked away with their dignity intact.

He’s cold, calculated, and almost ruthless.

That’s correct, it’s almost ruthless.

He does, after all, have another side to him, particularly when it comes to safeguarding children. The character’s second dimension is what makes him so unique and earns him a position on the list.

8. En

Dorohedoro is a Japanese anime series.

In this post, we’ll look at what it takes to be a magical mob leader.

But not simply any of those things; he is the most powerful magic user in the most powerful family in Dorohedoro’s whole universe.

This disguised psychopath will go to any length to achieve his goals — murder, torture, you name it, he’s done it.

However, he also shows a great deal of concern for his family. He even had a little mushroom garden, offering us a glimpse into the kind of guy he might be if he wasn’t so busy killing anyone who got in his way.

A fantastic villain with an even greater personality.

Under his bad guy mask, he’s even got bad guy facial hair!

Tetsuo Shima is number seven on the list.

Tetsuo Shima from Akira anime

Akira is a Japanese anime series.

This is perhaps one of the most well-known items on the list. And Tetsuo is a sad figure with a rich, fascinating past worth delving into.

Tetsuo is a living inferiority issue who will harm anybody who comes in his way in this investigation of power gone much beyond his control and how his potential didn’t match his end acts.

But there’s so much more to the character than the negative aspects, and we get to experience his once-normal(ish) relationship with Akira in such detail that it’s difficult not to feel terrible for him and his life spiraling out of control.

There’s no denying that he’s a horrible man.

But it’s his path to get there, as well as the repercussions, that make him such a fascinating villain.

6. The Most Important

The Major in Hellsing Ultimate

Hellsing is a Japanese anime series.

In retrospect, it seems that include an actual Nazi on this list was a bit too blatant.

His title actually translates to “Supreme Commander,” and we’re talking about Saturday morning cartoon wickedness on a scale that shouldn’t be conceivable!

But Hellsing isn’t a Saturday morning cartoon, and no one demonstrates this better than The Major.

His total and absolute fascination with war and all of its heinous aspects creates a character who defies most conceptions of evil.

For the sake of amusement, he launches conflicts. For his own delight, he continues to kill and destroy. Calling him a terrible man appears to give him a free pass!

Lelouch Lamperouge, No. 5

Lelouch Lamperouge from Code Geass anime

Code Geass is a Japanese anime series.

There aren’t many evil people as callous and uncaring to the agony they inflict as this one, who is the second coming of the character Lelouch vi Britannia after his exile.

Using a landslide to wipe out civilian towns? To him, it’s just a “mathematical overestimate.”

Destruction of Tokyo and the deaths of countless people, including children and innocents? It is very vital for his strategy to succeed in achieving what he need as Emperor.

He’s a complete scumbag.

But Lelouch is also a brilliantly bright and fascinating character who grows in importance as the book progresses. “Developed” in the sense that he deteriorates, but that is still development!

Shougo Makashima is number four.

Shougo Makashima in Psycho-Pass anime

Psycho-Pass is a Japanese anime series.

Shougo is the most violent type of liberator. He is hyper-intelligent, a brilliant warrior, and the world’s savior (that last one is in his own imagination).

However, his battle to “liberate” the people from the Sibyl System is mostly motivated by his own selfish vision of humanity.

And what was his way of liberation?

Let’s just say it’s a touch too chaotic to be entirely successful.

If only Shougo’s resolve had taken him down a different road. If he’d chosen to be an ice cream guy or anything, there would have been a lot less death and ruin in his wake.

Johan Liebert is number three on the list.

Monster Anime

You’d be excused for believing Johan Liebert was anything but a model citizen since he’s so attractive, personable, and engaging.

That is also what everyone on the program believes.

Which makes Johan’s manipulation and subsequent murder of them all the easier.

It’s a marvel Johan has gotten away with it for as long as he has, given his penchant for savagery.

But he’s mastered the art of putting on a show. And, although he does go after certain bad guys later in the film as part of his schemes, Johan isn’t a nice man by any sense of the imagination.

Nui Harime is number two.

Nui Harime from Kill la Kill anime

Kill la Kill is a Japanese anime series.

She is not a cute little youngster.

Because Nui Harime is a sick and twisted little creature.

Let’s face it, any small kid who kills her own father is going to raise some eyebrows right away.

However, violence is so engrained in her character that it begins to weary her after a short time, and she loses her childish, lighthearted exterior, revealing the aggressive and deadly murderer underneath.

So keep your guard up while you’re around Nui Harime. You won’t be around long enough to regret it.

Griffith, No. 1

Griffith in Berserk anime

Berserk is a Japanese anime series.

Griffith seemed to have it all.

He was about as near to the top as it gets, a rescuer, a survivor of innumerable fights, and adored by everybody.

None of it, however, could compare to the dream he had pursued – the one he kept in his heart even as he was tortured to death.

Does he exhibit sorrow when faced with all the death that has followed in his wake while pursuing his dream? No.

He thinks that stopping now would mean giving up all he has worked for.

And, without exception, everyone who loved him is slain.

Griffith, you’ve done it again. That’s a lot of ice right there.
