Eidos-Montréal Shifts to a Four-Day Work Week

Eidos-Montréal, a French video game studio, has announced it will be shifting to a four-day work week. This move is meant to make the company more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Employees at Eidos-Montréal will be able to live out their goal of a shorter work week, which has been a dream of many across the globe.

The studio behind Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Shadow of the Tomb Raider said today that all workers would be working a four-day week, with three-day weekends becoming the norm. Workers at Eidos-Montréal will only have to work 32 hours a week instead of 40. This advantage will also be extended to Eidos-Sherbrooke, a relatively young research and development studio established in June 2020.

Head of Studio David Anfossi stated that management is lowering the normal work week to protect staff well-being.

“This project is another step in embodying the studio’s ideals, which is to provide a healthy, creative, and sustainable work environment for our employees,” said Anfossi.

“At the moment, our different teams are working on transition strategies to guarantee success and uphold the industry’s top standards. The Montreal and Sherbrooke studios will be formally closed on Fridays in the coming weeks, without affecting existing working conditions or employee pay, resulting in a shift from a 40-hour week to a 32-hour week.”

Anfossi further emphasized that the shift to a four-day work week does not imply that workers would be forced to work more hours to compensate for the day off.

“The goal isn’t to cram all of our work hours into four days, but to look at how we do things and how much quality time we spend in order to work more efficiently!” Anfossi clarified. “Above all, we aim to boost our workers’ productivity and well-being.”

“Specifically, we aim to decrease the amount of time spent at work while improving the quality of that time, whether on a team-by-team basis or for the studio as a whole. For everything, a promised proper balance!”

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, an action-adventure game based on one of Marvel’s most famous superhero teams, is presently being developed by Eidos-Montréal. On October 26, 2021, the game will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, as well as a Cloud Version for Nintendo Switch.

We’re still adapting our studio to the changing realities of employment. We’re switching to a 4-day work week after remote working and the hybrid model! For even more creative games, a better work-life balance is required. Details are available at https://t.co/1AaVJFwCLX.
